Rainy Days...

 Another rainy day here...the thing is it's a nice rainy day. 

I have been working on some things to post, but there is a slight problem...

I left my camera USB cord three hours away.

Hopefully,

I will get it back this weekend. 

For me all is back in the swing of school. 

I'm finding I have more time than I thought I might have this semester. 

So, this is good news because I am going to get some art collecting up and see if I can sell my way through college.

Funny being back to school...

Freshmen on campus, here is a must for being a college student!

1. Rain boots or flipflops ( your choice)

 2.An umbrella in your backpack at all times.

This is Arkansas. Weather here is always up in the air ( ha no pun intended).

Along with being back in the swing of things. I have started the book The Shack. I have heard a lot of people say they like it, but some say its weird.

 Lately, I have been to focused on me and the things that society thinks are the important things. It's time to bring myself back to earth and slow it down (good thing since I have more time now!).  Something to work on is thinking of others in front of myself. What's that Acronym?!

Oh yes JOY. Ha such first grade, but legit!

Friends make the world go round

So summer is almost done; 1 week and 1 day until the dread of 16 hours of class a week. Good thing this past weekend was a blast with some pretty great friends. I haven't had time to work on any art like I wanted to but there were some pretty fun times anyways. 
 Top five things that have made my day today:


1)    a skinny vanilla latte




2)       reading this book while drinking the vanilla latte in Starbucks. The buzz and noise of the coffee making and the perfect table by the window makes this book so much better; not to mention the best reading place. 


3)   $.50 wing night at Foghorn's in Fayetteville with my sister. 




4)     A little shopping spree (much overdue). 






5)     I have to say hands down my favorite girl country singer. If you haven't gotten her new album yet...DO IT! I just got it at Target for $10 and I'm already in love love love with it!  




Well, that's my day in a nutshell...pretty great lazy summer day. 


Oh I do have to add another:
6)  Weather today was 89 degrees and was the perfect weather for a run!!

This one's for the roomies

  So the end of school was a couple of weeks ago. Although it seems like it was just a week ago...I made an end of the year present to my wonderful roommates. We have a lot of fun taking random pictures through out the year and what a better time to use them than with an end of the year present!

 I decorated all of the picture frames(which were from the dollar store). 

I used some acrylic paint, (from Hobby Lobby) I used some peel and stick designs and letters, then I used sandpaper on the paint. 

Then I picked out some scrapbook paper...(of course from Hobby Lobby...where else!!!!)

And added some pictures from through out the year...

Plus I forgot to mention the glitter...

I loved these fun frames for my roomies! 

I have to add a cute picture from this past weekend. We went to listen to a BoomKinetic.

Rosie the Riveter

During WWII the term Rosie the Riveter was coined. What a great symbol for the working woman; even today. I was inspired by a magazine article on different women throughout history that made a stand for something they wanted and believed in. In the case of so many " Rosies" during WWII when they had to....

I used a type of newspaper and charcoal. I have to say that charcoal is my favorite medium! You can erase and redo as often as you like {as long as the paper holds out =0) }.

I wanted her to have a depth to her eyes with a harsh but soft side to show her feminine side also.

I still felt like something was missing so...

I added a little color. In my option, it made the picture pop more. I used a yellow pastel and smeared it. I wanted a soft yellow, so the background wouldn't over power the actual picture.

Although school is out for the summer... or at least for a couple of weeks for me. Here's a history lesson on icons in America.

Fun facts about Rosie:

1. It first showed up in 1942.

2. It was first used in a song by Redd Evans and John Jacob Loeb.

3.This American icon inspired 20 million women to work even after WWII.

4. These women worked in the industrial factories. Some helped make the B-29s and B-24 bombers for the Air Force.

5.Shirley Karp Dick was the original model for Rosie the Riveter.

So instead of finals... let's be creative!

This weekend was the first weekend in forever that I really didn't have something to do... so in honor of Mother's day coming up I made a frame for my mom. I wasn't sure how it would turn out so... I went to Hobby Lobby and just started picking up random things that I thought would look very cute on a frame. Let me just start by saying... going to Hobby Lobby is dangerous... especially without a game plan. =)

The few things I picked up where scrapbook paper, wooden frames (which are only about $3), a jewelry piece,, wooden letterings and ribbon.

My inspiration cam from the classic faded blue print.

I wanted to give the picture frame a homie, vintage, down to earth feel.

It is a pretty easy and fun project. I just used sandpaper to sand the edges of the frame and the paper to give it an old feel. Thanks to my friend Maggie we sponged the letters with a gold/bronze color to match the accent. =)

For a semi broke college student; I think this came out perfect!

Wooden frame: $3.00

Scrapbook paper:$1.00

Jewelry accent: $4.00

Wooden letters:$3.00

Total = $11.00 ( with plenty of left overs to make another frame)

So what we learned here: Hobby Lobby inspires some great ideas, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a cute frame, and well creativity doesn't have to be expensive...

Goes to the Birds

This is for my bathroom that I just repainted. I decided Peacock feathers would be a neat/different little decoration for a bathroom =)

I'm still working on the trash can... not really sure how it's going to turn out but we'll see. This is all for right now, but give me two weeks and there will be a lot more on here.

For A Rainy day...

Okay so I left my camera at home...hence no updates lately. Here's a picture from my Spring Break trip... oh if only I had my camera to upload more.... oh well....

It's bizarre that there are only a few weeks left in this semester!!! Good thing though because I'm so ready for it to be ova!
